World War II World War II was significant because it was the most all encompassing conflict in which the men and women from Oktibbeha County had participated since the Civil War. The War itself sprang forth so quickly a large infrastructure of National Guard and Reserve Units did not really exist. Therefore, unlike past conflicts, Oktibbeha County Servicemen and women were send to different units all over the world to fight.
