Miscellaneous Oktibbeha County Related Information
According to Mattie Sink, of the MSU library and the Oktibbeha County Genealogical and Historical Society, regarding tax records for the county:
"Normally tax records are in the Mississippi courthouses. Oktibbeha tax records were filmed by the LDS church and are available at the Mississippi Dept. of Archives and History (MDAH) on microfilm. Oddly enough, no one that I know of has ever been able to find the originals at the Tax Assessor's office or elsewhere at the Oktibbeha County Courthouse. We have no idea what happened to them.
Available on microfilm at MDAH are:
Combination tax roll (personal property and land), 1835-1841
Land rolls, 1853, 1866, 1883
Personal tax rolls, 1844, 1846, 1846-1847, 1851, 1853, 1867, 1872, 1876, 1888, 1890
Normally these reels would be available to borrow on Interlibrary loan through your local LDS church/branch library. However, I have searched the LDS Library catalog at familysearch.org and they do not show holdings for these tax records. I've used them and have the official list, so I know they are at MDAH."
