Descendant's of John Frederick Shaffer

John Frederick Shaffer was born Aug. 18, 1774 in Newberry Dist., South Carolina, the son of Frederick & Elizabeth Shaffer.

His parent's were German immigrants who settled near Dutch Fork, Newberry District, South Carolina in the 1760's.

John Frederick married Magdalina Eichelberger about 1790/92 in Newberry District, South Carolina; they had nine children.

Magdalina was born about 1775, the daughter of Johann George & Elizabeth Catherine "Shealy" Eichelberger. Magdalina died bet. 1812 - 1820 probably in Greene County, Tennessee.

John left South Carolina and first moved to Greene County, Tennessee. John Frederick left Tennessee before 1830, and settled in Brush Creek, Perry County, Alabama, with his nine children. He later married Priscilla Hopkins on December 14, 1841 in Perry County, Alabama.

John Frederick Shaffer has been found on several land deeds of Perry County, Alabama. On September 27, 1821, he purchased 159 acres in Perry County Alabama. His last land deed found in Perry County, Alabama was November 1, 1858.

He died on October 24, 1859 in Perry County, Alabama, and was buried at Mt. Herman Methodist Church Cemetery in Hale County, Alabama.

He owned several acres of land in Perry & Hale Counties, Alabama. He once owned the land where Mt. Herman Church & Cemetery is located today. He gave this land for the church to be built on. His estate was valued at $35,000, at the time of his death. His son John Frederick Shaffer, Jr., was the executor of his estate, October 31, 1860.

Several of John Frederick & Magdalina Shaffer's children left Perry County, Alabama in the 1840's, and some did not leave until later-- before 1870. He had two daughters who never left Alabama. They were Christiana "Shaffer" Monts, and Elizabeth "Shaffer" Smith.

Christiana married George Casper Monts before 1821, and they had three children. Elizabeth married Thomas Isaac Smith on March 7, 1833 in Perry County, Alabama. They had a large family of 10 children. Elizabeth died in Perry County, Alabama. Her husband, Thomas Isaac, died while visiting relatives in Choctaw County, Mississippi. He was buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Webster County, Mississippi. His brother- in-law, John M. Shaffer, was buried there also in 1855.

John Frederick & Magdalina had 4 sons, and 2 daughters who all left Perry County, Alabama, and first moved to Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. One son was William Shaffer born about 1801 in South Carolina and died after 1880. He moved west to Madisonville, Madison County, Texas. He married Narcissa Wemyss on October 11, 1824 in Perry County, Alabama, and they had 8 children who were raised in Madison County, Texas.

The other three sons were John M. Shaffer, born November 19, 1797 - died Aug. 10, 1855 in Choctaw County, Mississippi; John Frederick Shaffer, Jr., born December 9, 1804 in South Carolina, and died January 28, 1879 at Pine Bluff, Clay County, Mississippi; and Adam Shaffer, born June 13, 1807 in South Carolina, and died May 16, 1855 at Siloam, Oktibbeha County, (now Clay County, Mississippi).

Adam & John M. Shaffer settled in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi before 1840, and John Frederick moved there before 1870. They also had two sisters who moved to Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. Susannah "Shaffer" Greene, and her husband Jesse Greene settled there about the same time as Adam & John M. Shaffer. Susannah's sister Mary Polly "Shaffer" Smith, the widow of Luke Smith, came to Oktibbeha County, Mississippi between 1860 - 1870. Mary Polly was living with her son-in-law Jerry R. Shumake, and her daughter, Martha Caroline "Smith" Shumake on the 1870 Census of Starkville, Oktibbeha County, Miss. She married Luke Smith about 1820, and they had 8 children; some of these children lived in Greene County, Alabama, and Oktibbeha County, Mississippi.

John M. Shaffer married Mary D. "Dolly" Smith on February 16, 1823 in Perry County, Alabama, and they had 9 children. John M. & Dolly Shaffer lived in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi in 1840, and Choctaw County, Mississippi after 1850. Several of their children raised their families in Webster County, Mississippi.

John Frederick Shaffer married Mary Ann Duke on January 24, 1828 in Perry County, Alabama, and they only had one daughter; Martha Caroline Shaffer, who married Robert Watson Barton. John Frederick & Mary Ann "Duke" Shaffer lived in Chickasaw & Clay County, Mississippi near Pine Bluff, Mississippi.

Adam Shaffer married Louisa Colensworth Russell on April 8, 1830 in Perry County, Alabama. They had 10 children. Louisa C. Russell was born on November 8, 1813 in Baldwin County, Georgia, the daughter of Andrew M. & Mary "Parker" Russell. Louisa died on March 3, 1900 at Siloam, Clay County, Mississippi. Adam & Louisa were buried at the Shaffer Cemetery, Siloam, Clay County, Mississippi. Several of their children moved west to Texas, & Arkansas. John Frederick & Mary Ann "Duke" Shaffer were buried at Pine Bluff Cemetery, Pine Bluff, Clay County, Mississippi. Their daughter Martha Caroline & Robert Watson Barton were also buried at Pine Bluff.

John M. Shaffer was buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Webster County, Mississippi. His wife Dolly "Smith" Shaffer was born on October 15, 1805 in South Carolina and died on September 6, 1846, probably near Double Springs, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi and was probably buried next to John M. Shaffer at New Hope Cemetery.

Adam & Louisa Colensworth "Russell" Shaffer had 10 children. They were Amanda M. Shaffer born on September 2, 1831 in Perry County, Alabama, and died on April 25, 1854 in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. She married James S. Williams about 1853, and they had one daughter, Louisa A. "Williams" Braswell. George Washington Shaffer was born on March 13, 1833 in Perry County, Alabama, and died on April 1, 1898 in Hill County, Texas. He married Louisa Carolyn "Lucy" Bennett on May 26, 1858 in Chickasaw County, Mississippi and they had seven children.

Andrew Jackson Shaffer was born on November 28, 1836 in Perry County, Alabama, and died on April 12, 1926 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. Andrew Jackson married Nancy Exine Melton on October 10, 1866 in Lowndes County, Mississippi and they had five known children. Andrew J. & Nancy Exine "Melton" Shaffer were buried at the Shaffer Family Cemetery, along with four of their children.

John Frederick Shaffer was born on April 18, 1838 in Perry County, Alabama, and died on April 8, 1916 in Runnels County, Texas, he married Maggie Green November 21, 1865 in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi and they had five children.

Martha Jane Shaffer was born on July 16, 1840, she married Robert L. Cooper before 1860 in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi.

Mary A. Adaline Shaffer was born on Jan. 6, 1843 in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi and died on Jan. 25, 1927 in Lee County, Mississippi. She married Washington J. Redus on December 17, 1873 in Clay County, Mississippi.

Emily Parker Shaffer was born on May 20, 1846 in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi and died on June 16, 1939 in Grady County, Oklahoma. Emily married Leondaius L. "Gus" Cooper on Dec. 28, 1865 in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi and they had six children.

Louisa Fredonia Shaffer was born on June 21, 1848 in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi and died on August 5, 1878 in Lee County, Mississippi. She married Thomas Littleton Schumpert on October 21, 1867 in Siloam, Clay County, Mississippi and they had four children.

Marcuius D. Lafayette Shaffer was born on February 24, 1852 in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi and he married Frances M. Jacobs about 1879. They had five known children. Marcuius D. Lafayette was living with his brother John Frederick Shaffer at Waco, McLennan County, Texas in 1870. Many of Adam Shaffer, John M. Shaffer, and Jesse Greene descendants lived in this area of Clay, Webster, Oktibbeha, Chickasaw, & Choctaw County, Mississippi.
