The Starkville News dated June 20 1943 Blake Services at Center Grove Young Oktibbeha Matron Succumbs after Illness in Oktibbeha Hospital Mrs. Mattie Caroline Blake, 23, died at Oktibbeha Hospital Saturday night, June 19, after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Pvt. William Blake, Camp Wheeler, Ga., US Army; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Watkins of Pheba, Miss.; two sisters, Mrs. John J. Bland and Miss Laura Watkins of Pheba; three brothers, Jackson and Jesse Lee Watkins of Mathiston, Miss.; and John Watkins, Jr., of Phebe, Miss. Funeral services were held at Center Grove Church near Maben, Miss., Pallbearers were U. V. Dill, Johnny J. Bland, Harold Hodnitt; Ellis Blake, Hugh Spruill, Woodrow Jaynes. Flower girls were her sisters, Miss Laura Watkins, Mrs. Rosa Bland, and Mrs. Jack Watkins. Mrs. Blake was a member of Midway Baptist Church, Meridian, Miss.
