Julia Ann Wilson Cummins
DIED - What a shock it was to our community when the news was conveyed of the
sudden death of Mrs. Andrew Cummins, which occurred Thursday morning at her home
in Longview.
Mrs. Cummins arose early, attended to her duties as usual, about
nine o'clock she was stricken with paralysis, and before a physician arrived,
her spirit had taken its flight to the God who gave it.
God's ways are often mysterious and we realize this with sadness when a cheerful
Christian and mother is snatched away without a moment's warning.
She was torn from the hearts of a loving family, and a large circle of friends
were much endeared to her.
Mrs. Cummins was born August 10, 1856 and died
December 14, 1909, and while we morn her loss, we know our High Priest never
makes mistakes; His judgments are always right.
The funeral services were conducted at Pleasant Ridge, by Brother Wallace, in
presence of a large family, her aged father and husband, seven sons, five
daughters, three daughter-in-laws and a number of grandchildren being present,
besides other relatives and friends.
She was a devoted wife, a kind and
indigent mother, and a friend to all. None can measure the ways of God, none
can measure the unfathomable mysteries of the universe, yet we may rest assured
that the wisdom and watchfulness of God are infinitely superior to our own, and
the time will come when the way of Providence will be completely vindicated,
when the sorest griefs which burden our hearts here are really our surest safe
guards, when it will be seen that sorrow as well as joy, as successful work
together for the good of them that feel that they are only strangers and
pilgrims here.
May the Great Dispenser of joy and sorrow bind up the broken,
severed hearts of husband and children, as
only a kind omnipotent Father can, and may they form an unbroken family, where
flowers ever bloom in perfect loveliness, and may this Father be able too say,
Lord here are we and they that thou hast given us.
