Starkville News sent in by Mary Whitaker Davis Aug 11, 1937 Pioneer Citizen Dies at Drew Abb Fondren, 84, Succumbs at the Home of His Daughter Friends in this section will regret to learn of the death of Abb Fondren, 84, one of the pioneer citizens of Oktibbeha County, who passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Effie Fulgham of Drew, Miss. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 11 at Drew, followed by burial there. Mr. Fondren spent most of his eighty-four years in this county, coming here when a very young boy. For many years he operated a large farm near Adaton. His wife, the former Miss Dora Ray, died eight years ago. Mr. Fondren was a member of the Baptist church and an active Mason. He leaves two sons, Frank of Longview and Charles of Jackson; five daughters, Mrs. Beulah Petty of Memphis, Mrs. Effie Fulgham of Drew, Mrs. Pearl Critz of Adaton; Misses Viola and Vernon Fondren of Memphis; and one brother, Willis Fondren of Adaton.
