1-22-1926 Starkville News Pioneer Citizen of Oktibbeha Co. Dead One of the oldest pioneer citizens and Confederate veterans in the county, "Uncle" Phillip Fulgham, died at his home in the Double Springs community Tuesday morning after a short illness of pneumonia. "Uncle" Phil would have attained the ripe old age of 87 had he lived a little longer. Despite his advanced years, he was enjoying splendid health, apparently vigorous, and retained this state until stricken with a severe cold which develolped into pneumonia. The funeral obsequies occurred Wednesday afternoon at Chestnut Log Baptist church of which denomination he had been a member for over fifty years. The concourse of people--friends and relatives-- attested the high esteem in which he was held, nearly every portion of the county being represented. Rev. O. P. Breland, of Starkville and pastor of the church conducted the services. Previous to this a choir sang several hymns, one or two being favorites of the deceased. The minister eulogized the beautiful traits of character in the life of the deceased and the fine examples of truth and honesty which should be emulated by others. For a period of fifty years he was a Mason, honored and respected in that order and on this day of interment the Masons officiated in their ceremony, represented by Starkville, Maben, and Double Springs.
