8-16-1956 Dr. Homer J. Harpole Dr. Homer Jackson Harpole, retired Maben dentist and father of Bill Harpole, superintendent of the state penitentiary at Parchman, died at his home at 10PM Thursday. He was 79 last Monday. Dr. Harpole had practiced dentistry in Maben more than 50 years and retired five years ago. He attended the University of Tennessee and graduated from Northwestern in Chicago in 1904. As a pioneer dentist he was regarded as outstanding in this section of the state. He was a life-long resident of Maben. His long career presented the Masonic lodge with outstanding work and leadership. He served the lodge as Worshipful Master a number of times and possessed the 50 year membership pin in the lodge. He was a Shriner, an Odd Fellow and member of the Woodmen of the World. He was an active member in the American Dental Association. He belonged to the Maben Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Head Harpole of Maben; three sons, Dr. Jim Harpole of Emory University, Atlanta, Frank Harpole of Maben and Bill Harpole of Parchman; one daughter, Mrs. Bill Shivers of Sledge; two sisters, Mrs. Bob Glenn and Mrs. Ross Wilkinson, both of Texas, and three grandchildren. Services were held at 4 PM Friday at the Harpole residence in Maben. Burial was in Maben Providence Cemetery with Welch Funeral Home in charge.
