6-16-1970 Local Woman Is Killed By Blast from Shotgun A Starkville woman died from a shotgun blast early Saturday night in the back yard of her home on Curry Street. Mrs. Mary Lee Kemp, wife of Isiah Kemp, died instantly, and police officers arrested James "Blue" Harris Jr., who is now being held in the County Jail pending a preliminary hearing. Harris is 56. Acting Police Chief B. C. Shook said that the police department received the call about the shooting at 6:06 PM Saturday. He said that investigating officers found the body behind the home of Curry. She had been shot in the back at close range. Officers included Eckford Lummus, Harrell Glisson, Elmer Cooper, Y. C. Wade, William Fields and W. C. Bell. Mississippi Funeral Service is in charge of the services which were incomplete yesterday.
