East Mississippi Times June 20, 1923 Death of Mrs. Lanier Mrs. Josephine Bell Lanier, wife of W. R. Lanier, died at her home Monday afternoon about two o'clock, while sitting on the front gallery. Although Mrs. Lanier had been an invalid for the past two years, having sustained a stroke of paralysis, from which she never recovered, her sudden death came as a great shock to her family and friends. She was 79 years of age and up to the time she became paralyzed, had lived an active life. She was a consistent member of the Methodist Church and had a large circle of friends. She is survived by four sons; Mr. John Lanier of Atlant and Messrs. W. R. Lanier, Jr., George and Eugene Lanier, of this city and six daughters, Mrs. Horace Carpenter, Mrs. Maggie McLeoud, Mrs. T. H. Rousseau and Miss Alice Lanier, of this City, Mrs. Joseph Sisloff, of Belzoni, and Mrs. Goodwin, or Meridian, all of whom were present at the time of death except Mrs. Sisloff, who had left for her home in Belzoni that day but receiving the message at Winona, returned at once. The funeral services took place at the residence at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. W. Woollard, Pastor of the Methodist Church. Internment at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
