Rev. Wilburn Matthews

The Rev. Wilburn Matthews, 80, died Jan. 31, 2008. Services are today at 3 p.m. 
at First Baptist Church in Starkville. Burial will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery 
in Starkville. Visitation is today for two hours prior to services at the church. 
Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements. 

After serving in World War II and the Korean War, the Rev. Matthews received 
his bachelor's degree from Mississippi College. He served as pastor in various 
churches in Alabama and Mississippi for over 50 years prior to retirement. 

He is survived by his wife, Donnis Brent Matthews; children, Dr. Mark Matthews 
of Tupelo, Suzy Heflin of Peachtree City, Ga., and Paul Matthews of Augusta, Ga.; 
brother, Walter Matthews of Huntsville, Ala.; sisters, Mary Rider of Oklahoma 
City and Marie Matthews of Jackson; and 12 grandchildren.
