Died June 29, 1969 McIlwain Rites Today Funeral services for Doss Watt McIlwain, Sr., of Route 1, Starkville, will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Oktibbeha Memorial Gardens. Mr. McIlwain, who was 90, died Sunday afternoon at Felix Long Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Panola County. [Note from Submitter: He was born in Panola County, but didn't live there long] Officiating at the services will be the Rev. J. W. Chatham of Louisville, Dr. J. N. Brown and the Rev. Robert Cross. Welch Funeral Home is in Charge. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a deacon. Until his retirement in 1941 he was superintendent of the Experimental Farms at Mississippi State. After his retirement, he became a dairy farmer. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sarah Gertrude Castles McIlwain of Sessums; a son, D.W. McIlwain, Jr., of Starkville; two daughters, Mrs. Levancia Pitt of Silver Springs, Md., and Mrs. Grace Harris of State College; five brothers, John McIlwain, Emmett McIlwain and Oscar McIlwain, all of Artesia, Walter McIlwain of Starkville, and Mack McIlwain of Vernon, Ala.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Memorials, requested by the family in lieu of flowers, should be sent to Palmer Orphanage in Columbus or French Camp Academy. Pallbearers will be Carson Castles, Emmett McIlwain, Jr., John Castles, Harry F. Garretson, Jr., Holand Garretson, Hugh Castles, Joe Watt McIlwain and Alvin P. McIlwain.
