County Resident Found Shot To Death 12/25/1905-12/20/1974 Shed Hill Petty, a retired farmer, was killed Thursday night at his home on the Adaton-Self-Creek Road eight miles west of Starkville. Mr. Petty, 68, would have celebrated his 69th birthday on Christmas Day. Oktibbeha County Sheriff J. C. Kellum reported that Mr. Petty was believed to have been murdered during a robbery attempt. He died of gunshot wounds. The incident took place at approximately 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Sheriff Kellum and his deputies are conducting an extensive search for Mr. Petty's assailant. Services for Mr. Petty will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Welch Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Mitchell Ferguson presiding. Burial will follow in the Clear Springs Baptist Cemetery. A lifelong resident of Oktibbeha County, Mr. Petty was a member of the Adaton Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Sarah Blankenship Petty; five daughters, Mrs. Burney Walker and Mrs. Charles Holland, both of Starkville, Mrs. Frances Hancock of Stringer, Mrs. James Cooper of Columbus, and Mrs. Elizabeth Palmer of Frankfurt, Germany; two brothers, Joe R.
