Will Thompson Died 11/12/1940 Early Wednesday morning at 6:30 o'clock, the Heavenly Father came and claimed the spirit of one of our most noble men, Will F. Thompson, of Maben, Miss., in Oktibbeha County. Mr. Thompson was born on Dec. 4, 1869 near Hickory Grove and spent all his life in this county. He was constable of Beat 3 for four years and a member of the Board of Supervisors for sixteen years. A member of the Methodist Church, he was also a Mason and a member of the Independent order of Odd Fellows. Our hearts were sorely grieved in the going of this man. He was very much devoted to his wife and children and was of unspeakable worth to his community. Mr. Thompson's health had been failing for about twelve years, and during the past year he was confined to his bed most of the time. Many times the doctors gave him up, saying there was nothing they could do, but with his great determination, he fought such fights several times. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Rex Murff of Artesia, assisted by the Rev. H. D. Suydam, of Mathiston, at 2:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the DOuble Springs Cemetery. Burial rites were conducted by the Odd Fellows, and National Funeral Home was in charge. Honorary pallbearers included Edd Fulgham, J. R. Vanderford, Wast Douglas, Arthur Tuck, Square Harpole, Jimmie Thomas, Harold Kirby, Neely Gregg, Thomas Garrard, Frank Love, Arthur Clardy, Joe Phelps, Mack Seawright, Jesse Neely, Lory Oswalt, L. W. Brown, Andrew Clardy and H. H. O'Bannon. Pallbearers, who were nephews of Mr. Thompson, were William Thompson, Lem Seawright, James Thompson, Olen Westbrooks, Quinton Baynham, Willie Thompson, and Clinton Fulgham. Mr. Thompson's nieces served as members of the Flower Committee. They are Miss Estelle Thompson, Miss Madie Thompson, Mrs. Shelly Ford, Mrs. Bill O'Dell, Miss Frances Thompson, Miss Ida Lee Thompson, and Mrs. K. Forshee. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Orma Thompson, three sons, Grady of Maryville, Tenn., Ogla of Starkville, Rupert of Maben, and two daughters, Mrs. Pink Douglas and Mrs. Raymond Templeton, both of Starkville and six grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers, White, Bell, Guss and Mall of Maben, and Erekin of Starkville, and four sisters, Mrs. George Mills of Louisville, Mrs. Clive Smith of Columbus, Mrs. Tom Seawrigiht of Maben and Mrs. J. O. Turner of Tillatoba. Transcribed by C. L. Herrick and donated to http://oktibbehamsgenealogy.org
